The Breast Care Program
Rutland Regional Medical Center coordinates breast health screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care through our collaborative Breast Care Program. In addition to traditional mammography screening, the Breast Care Program offers Breast MRI for patients at high risk of developing breast cancer.
This powerful, supplemental new technology can be used to verify mammogram results and precisely mark surgical sites. Sometimes, it may even reveal cancers and abnormalities not found during breast self-exam, clinical breast exam and mammography.
The Breast Care Program helps facilitate insurance coverage and clinical trials eligibility for breast cancer patients. It also offers community education, wellness and screening events, and maintains a resource library. The Breast Care Program is a member of the National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.
Digital mammography represents a major advance in healthcare for several reasons: • The overall radiation dose from digital mammography is lower than film mammography. • A major study examining more than 49-thousand women found that digital mammography detected significantly more cancers than film mammography in women younger than 50, women with dense breast tissue and premenopausal and perimenopausal women. • Digital mammography features high contrast that allows physicians to better discern healthy dense tissue from malignancy, both of which can have a similar appearance on film mammography. • Images can be easily and quickly transmitted from one physician to another, enhancing overall patient care.
Mammography is fast and more comfortable than with film mammography. Appointments are available evenings and weekends for your convenience. To schedule a Mammogram call 802.747.1880.
The Mammography department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and is inspected yearly by the FDA. A Board Certified Radiologist reviews and interprets all mammograms.
