Community Cancer Center Renamed Foley Cancer Center

Rutland (VT) – In celebration of the extraordinary generosity and support of Nancy and Mark Foley, Sr. to Rutland Regional Medical Center, Rutland Regional has announced the renaming of its award winning Community Cancer Center to the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
"The Foleys’ generosity has significantly advanced Rutland Regional Medical Center’s quest to purchase a new linear accelerator to benefit our cancer patients," said Thomas W. Huebner, president of Rutland Regional. "With their extraordinary philanthropic vision and personal dedication to help all members of the cancer community, particularly radiation therapy patients and their loved ones, the Foley commitment will enable us to purchase this vital equipment."
The Foley gift is part of a $1.25 million dollar campaign to purchase a linear accelerator for the cancer center. The Varian Linear Accelerator will enable the hospital to improve its accuracy in irradiating cancerous tumors, and thus minimize damage to nearby healthy tissue. The new linear accelerator replaces a 13-year-old linear accelerator and will cost the hospital about $4 million for the accelerator and supporting computers and software.
"We want to recognize the Foley family and acknowledge the significant impact this gift has in advancing the treatment offered by the Cancer Center." said Richard Lovett, MD a radiation oncologist and President of the Medical Staff at Rutland Regional. "We decided that the 20th anniversary of the Community Cancer Center was the appropriate time to celebrate and thank the Foley’s for making this magnificent gift.”
"The Foley investment in the Cancer Center will enable us to provide the latest in radiation therapy treatment for cancer, which affects one in three Americans," adds Lovett.
Throughout its twenty year history, the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center has been continuously recognized regionally and nationally for its contributions to patient care.
