Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 20 bed unit that specializes in a level of care called progressive care, we are the stepping stone for the between who is ready to leave ICU but not ready for the floor and vice versa we take patients who require more care than the floor can provide but don't require ICU. We see a wide variety of patients: a lot of cardiac patients, chest pain, myocardial infarctions, new pacemakers, new defibrillators, pts starting new potent cardiac drugs and they require cardiac monitoring, stroke patients, surgical patients that had cardiac or resp events in PACU or the OR. All of the PCU staff is specially trained to take care of critical patients.
