Diagnostic Imaging
Rutland Regional Medical Center’s diagnostic imaging technology contains some of New England's most advanced equipment and services. Our hospital’s diagnostic imaging staff includes expert, award-winning technologists and Board Certified radiologists. Together, they offer patients and physicians many options for treating health problems. Available imaging services include CT, PET and MRI scanning, ultrasound, X-ray, digital fluoroscopy, angiography, mammography, nuclear medicine, and bone density testing.
Computed tomography (CT) scanning uses X-rays to image organs, bones, the spinal cord and other body parts.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create multiple body images. Rutland Regional Medical Center’s MRI suite was designed to make patients feel comfortable. It features a high ceiling and a specially designed music system.
Positron emission tomography (PET scanning) uses a safe, radioactive tracer to detect changes in the body's cellular functioning. It is especially useful for finding cancer cells.
Nuclear scanning creates images using a safe, radioactive tracer. After the liquid tracer enters the body, it accumulates in the tissues and makes them visible to the scanner’s camera. Bones, organs (including the heart), blood vessels and glands may all be imaged with Rutland Regional Medical Center’s ultra-new nuclear scanner.
