Effective Pain Management Generally Requires a Comprehensive Approach. We are available to a referring health care provider to assist in planning individualized treatment programs.
We will develop a plan of care during or after the initial office visit or consultation. It will be up to the pain specialist, referring provider, and patient to decide who will carry out the plan. Patients and providers may expect a combination of treatments to be offered. These may include:
1. Medicines – Classes of medications used through our clinic include virtually all known medications with the potential to reduce pain. Examples include antidepressants, anti-epilepsy medications, local anesthetics, topical medications, NSAIDS, and opiates, among others.
2. Therepeutic/Diagnostic injections – We offer a wide array of pain management procedures. The choice of which procedure is appropriate for a given patient may be made at the time of initial consultation, or a knowledgeable referring provider may request a known procedure for a patient, without relying on a consultation. These procedures include: Epidural Steroid Injections –interlaminar and transforaminal Selective Nerve Root Blocks Sympathetic Blocks Stellate Ganglion, Lumbar sympathetic, etc. Facet Joint Steroid Injections Medial Branch Blocks Radiofrequency Denervation Large Joint Steroid Injections (Hip, shoulder, etc.) Bursa Steroid injections Sacroiliac joint injections Peripheral Nerve Blocks
We do not currently offer implantable device management (e.g. pain pumps or stimulators), nor do we perform disk procedures (e.g. discogram)
3. Therapies – Physical Therepeutics are a key part in the recovery from pain. These may include Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Aquatics (pool) therapy, among others. Therapies will be tailored to a given individual, depending on their ability and needs at the outset of treatment. Timing and duration of therapy will used to optimize functional recovery, and reduction of pain.
4. Behavioral Pain Management – Pain impacts patients’ lives in many ways. As a result, many people suffer from depression, anxiety and many other conditions which worsen pain and make it challenging to treat. Comprehensive pain management may well include consultation and treatment by a psychologist who specializes in the treatment of pain.
