Asthma Services in the Testing Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center
There are many people who suffer with asthma symptoms. Nearly 10 percent of adult Vermonters are believed to have the condition. Once your doctor has diagnosed you with asthma, he may refer you to the Outpatient Pulmonary Services at Rutland Regional Medical Center. This is where you will undergo tests so that your treatment can be fine tuned.
Asthma Educators are here to work with patients and families to recognize and minimize the symptoms of asthma, to prevent flare-ups by proper use of medications, and to improve quality of life. Asthma Educators can provide education for patients with a new or existing diagnosis of asthma. A physician referral is required, and individual sessions last approximately 1 ½ hours.
First we’ll perform a series of tests to determine the severity of your condition. Then we’ll sit down with you and go over the test results and discuss what’s happening in your airways.
Cold temperatures, allergies, tobacco smoke, pet dander and dust mites are just a few of the many things in the air that could trigger an asthma attack. We will help you determine what triggers your asthma attacks.
We will help you understand how your medication works, how to use your inhalers, and what you can do, as often as possible, to avoid asthma attacks. We help you manage your asthma, and schedule you for follow up visits, so you can be sure that you’re always on the right track.
