Rehab at Rutland Regional
The Rehabilitation Services at Rutland Regional Medical Center is dedicated to meeting the individual needs of patients. We provide a continuum of care in the Inpatient and Outpatient settings, with transition to work and community. Rehabilitation services include:
Pain Management: Uses a variety of methods to treat pain problems. Your individual treatment program could involve medicines, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pool therapy, behavioral pain management with a psychologist, or procedures including diagnostic/therapeutic injections. We want to help you increase your ability to function, as well as reduce or eliminate your pain. Three board certified physicians, each of whom is trained in pain management and related specialities, partner with patients to reduce or eliminate pain and increase daily functioning. Occupational Therapy: The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for a variety of functional areas including basic self-care tasks (feeding, dressing, bathing), as well as the more advanced skills of home management (meal planning and preparation, money and time management) and community skills. Programs are developed to maximize each patient's physical and intellectual capacity to improve performance in daily tasks. The program works to transition patients to independent living and return to work.
Physical Therapy: The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of areas of mobility including transfers, wheelchair mobility and household/community walking skills. The PT also addresses areas of strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Treatment methods are designed to promote functional independence. The PT also assists with recommendations for proper equipment and training to maximize safety and independence.
Speech-Language Pathology: The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) works as a member of the team to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing deficits. Evaluation and treatment focus on the thought processes underlying language, communication and learning, as well as the physiological mechanisms of speech production, swallowing and voice.
The SLP works with patients and families to develop communication and cognitive strategies to foster functional independence in the home, community and work/school settings, including alternative/augmentative communication systems. The SLP also screens the patient's hearing and recommends referrals if needed.
Social Work: We also have a Social Worker assigned to Outpatient Rehabilitation. The Social Worker assists in linking people with needed resources. We provide counseling to help patients and families cope with changes in lifestyle that can occur following a brain injury. Referrals to Social Work happen by direct referral from a person's physician, by consult with therapy staff in the Rehab Department, or by self-referral from Outpatients themselves. Learn More...
