Ms. Cohen comes to the Rutland Heart Center from Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC) where she cared for patients undergoing treatment for cardiac disease, which included extensive pre- and post-operative care. In addition to her work at FAHC, Ms. Cohen served as a Per Diem Nurse Practitioner at Genesis Physician Services here in Rutland, where she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Stan Shapiro, Medical Director of Rutland Heart Center. It was through Dr. Shapiro that Ms. Cohen learned about her new opportunity.
After receiving a Diploma in Nursing from Somerville Hospital School of Nursing in 1982, Ms. Cohen earned a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Norwich University in 2000, her Masters in Nursing Adult Nurse Practitioner in 2004 and Post Masters Degree in Acute Care this same year, both at Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY. Ms. Cohen became Board-Certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2005.
Originally from Somerville, MA, Ms. Cohen was working in the Boston area when she met her husband, a native Vermonter from Rutland. They moved back to Vermont in 1988. “I am looking forward to practicing a more global view of heart conditions and causes of heart failure,” said Ms. Cohen. “I will be working closely with patients on risk management by coaching them on lifestyle changes and advocating for the benefits of Cardiac Rehab.”
