A native of Vermont, John Louras completed his Residency in General Surgery from Hartford Hospital in 1984 and began his professional career in Rutland that same year.
An involved member of the community, Dr. Louras has served in Rutland as a Rutland City school board member and Rutland Free Library board member. He has served as President of the Vermont chapter of the American College of Surgeons and at Rutland Regional Medical Center was Chief of Surgery for more than 18 years.
Dr. Louras’ interests include breast, bowel and cancer surgery. He was the first surgeon in Rutland to do minimally invasive surgery and has been a pioneer locally to expand the scope of laparoscopic surgery offered by Rutland General Surgery, a part of Rutland Regional Medical Center. With a long practice of vascular and chest surgery, he remains the only physician from Rutland County doing permanent pacemakers.
Having lived his whole life in Rutland, where he and his wife still reside, they have raised 4 children here. A stalwart of the community, Dr. Louras’ interests include tennis, travel, gardening and his family.
