Anesthesiologist – A physician who specializes in the management of acute or chronic pain and providing pain relief and life support during surgical procedures and emergencies.
Board Certified Physician – A physician who has passed specific rigorous examinations in an area of specialty or primary care.
Cardiologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and circulatory disorders.
Critical Care Physician – A physician who specializes in the treatment of critically ill, hospitalized patients.

Dentist – A Doctor of Dentistry is a specialist who diagnoses and treats disorders of the teeth, gums and mouth, including preventive care.
Dermatologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases.
DMD – Doctor of Medical Dentistry.
DDS – Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Emergency Medicine Physician – A physician who specializes in the stabilization and treatment of emergency conditions resulting from sudden illness or trauma.
Endocrinologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the hormone-secreting glands (example: diabetes, osteoporosis and thyroid disorders).
Family Practice Physician – A physician who specializes in the general medical care, including preventive care, of all members of a family and all age groups.
Fellow – A member of a learned society.
Gastroenterologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the stomach, intestines, liver and related structures.
General Surgeon – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and repair, through surgery, of problems caused by illness or injury.
Hematologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the blood and blood-forming tissues (example: anemia).
Hospitalist – A physician who specializes in the care of hospitalized patients. They may be board-certified in any one of several specialties. They commonly do not have an office practice.
Internist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of general medical diseases and conditions not usually treated by surgery. Has special expertise in the care of critically ill patients and treatment of multiple organ disorders.
Mid-Level Provider – a non-physician, licensed healthcare provider, most commonly a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant.
Nephrologist – A physician who specializes in the nonsurgical treatment of kidney disorders.
Neurologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the nervous system (example: stroke, seizure disorders, Parkinson’s Disease).
Neurosurgeon – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of the nervous system, including the brain.
Nurse Practitioner (NP) – an advance-practice nurse who is licensed to practice independently
Obstetrician/Gynecologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases unique to women, primarily those of the reproductive and endocrine systems. This includes care of women during pregnancy, labor and delivery.
Oncologist – A physician who specializes in the treatment of cancers and other types of growths.
Ophthalmologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and medical as well as surgical, treatment of disorders of the eye and eye lid.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon – A dentist with additional training who concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the mouth, jaw and face.
Orthopaedic Surgeon – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the skeletal system, including bones, muscles and joints.
Osteopathic Physician – A Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) is a physician who graduated from an osteopathic medical school, where the medical education included extra training in the muscular and skeletal systems. After osteopathic medical school, a DO goes on to do additional residency training in a specialty, the same as an MD.
Otolaryngologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the ear, nose, throat and neck.
Pathologist – A physician who specializes in laboratory medicine (example: examines body fluids, cells and tissues for diagnosis and treatment of disease).
Pediatrician – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of children and adolescents, including preventive care.
Pedodontist – A dentist who specializes in the dental care of children.
Physiatrist – A physician who specializes in the medical examination and evaluation of disabilities through the prescription and medical supervision of physical, occupational, speech and other forms of therapy.
Physician Assistant (PA) – a licensed healthcare practitioner who works under the supervision of a physician.
Plastic Surgeon – A physician who specializes in surgical remodeling and repair of lost, injured or defective body parts.
Podiatrist – A Doctor of Podiatry is a specialist who diagnoses and treats disorders of the foot.
Psychiatrist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental health problems.
Pulmonologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and medical treatment of disorders of the respiratory system.
Radiation Oncologist – A physician who specializes in the use of X-rays in the treatment of cancer.
Radiologist – A physician who specializes in the diagnostic and therapeutic use of X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance and nuclear medicine. Also referred to as Diagnostic Imaging.
