The 2nd Community Health Fair was Saturday, May 5, 2007 10am-4pm at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse & Diamond Run Mall From a bike rodeo for kids with free bike helmets, to the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s “On the Road” Pink Bus, to free cholesterol screenings for adults, the Community Health Fair provides our community with an opportunity to find ways to improve their health. The Fair took place on Saturday, May 5, from 10am-4pm at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse and the Diamond Run Mall. The Community Health Fair, is organized by Rutland Regional Medical Center and many community partners. It was free and open to the public. Healthy refreshments were available for all who attended. Activities for children included: The Bike Rodeo; a Teddy Bear Clinic, which is offering free casts for kids’ stuffed animals; Rutland City Police will be offering free child photo IDs; and there will be other games, such as Bingo or Wheel of Fortune, that focus on health. Also, kids will enjoy the outdoor exhibits featuring the fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and the Vermont Fire Safety House. Activities for adults included: A health screening center will include free cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar tests, and balance screenings. Women’s health exhibits included the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s – “On the Go” Pink Bus; breastfeeding information, as well as birthing and labor techniques. There will be free car safety seat demonstrations, CPR and first aid information. Also, there was several complimentary health exhibits featuring Yoga, Acupuncture, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, and free introductory massages. There will also be exhibits on preventive health, physical activity, health eating habits, emergency preparedness, and information on local programs and resources. Last year, almost 3,000 people attended the 1st Annual Community Health Fair, which was held at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse. Outdoor exhibits included Children’s Bike Rodeo, Fire Trucks, Ambulances, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s “On the Road” Pink Bus. Our Community Health Fairs bring together fairs that have gone on in Rutland County for more than a decade. Those fairs often include the RRMC Children’s Health & Safety Fair, Community Care Network’s “Family Festival”, and the Kiwanis Bike Rodeo. The Community Health Fair on Saturday, May 5, 10am-4pm, was organized by Rutland Regional Medical Center , and sponsored by the RRMC Auxiliary, WCAX News, Rutland Herald, Rutland Area Visitng Nurses Association & Hospice, and the Diamond Run Mall.
