While the library maintains up-to-date books and videos on a variety of health topics such as diabetes, arthritis, dieting, etc., it does have some areas with comprehensive coverage:
Cancer Resources Area: Funded in part by the local Fair Haven Eagles Auxiliary and memorial contributions, this section of the Library has information for those just diagnosed, for survivors and those living with cancer, and for those facing the end of life's journey.
Caregivers: We have an especially nice collection of materials for those caring for an aging parent, disabled spouse, terminal family member, or for anyone with a chronic condition or life-long disability. Funded in part by the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging, we have books, DVDs, brochures, and other materials to help caregivers take care of themselves while caring for someone else.
Kinship Care & Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: Thanks to an outreach subcontract from the National Library of Medicine in 2005-2006, there is an active support group for folks raising children that are not their own. Contact Alison Grant at 775-2395, X304. The Library has books on grandparenting, parenting, behavioral topics, and a resource notebook.
The librarian can help you find information on diagnoses, medications, complementary therapies, healthy lifestyle choices and other special topics. Just ask! Call Claire LaForce at 747-3777 with questions or to schedule a time to visit & get the information you need.
