Targeting Cancer with Technology
Dec 01, 2006
RRMC is the only hospital in Vermont to offer a new, sophisticated ultrasound mapping tool used in Image-Guided Radiation Therapy cancer treatments. The IGRT Ultrasound System provides pinpoint accuracy in targeting prosate cancer.
Rutland, VT. Rutland Regional Medical Center enhanced its radiation oncology capability with the addition of image-guided radiation therapy, which is utilized in leading cancer centers worldwide. That means IGRT will be able to target the exact location of tumors while sparing the surrounding health tissues, nerves and organs. RRMC is the only hospital in Vermont to offer this cancer treatment technology.
IGRT Ultrasound System is a product of NOMOS® Radiation Oncology BAT® (B-mode Acquisition and Targeting) systems, pioneered by NOMOS Radiation. BAT offers the potential for improved cancer cure rates by allowing the safe delivery of higher-dose radiation while simultaneously minimizing the risk of treatment related complications. BAT is an image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) system which utilizes ultrasound-based technology to pinpoint tumor targets prior to a radiation therapy treatment. It enables physicians to align patients at each treatment visit to the original treatment plan position.
