Rutland, VT – Rutland Regional Medical Center and the Vermont Fresh Network have partnered in the Healthy Food in Health Care Pledge. This pledge states that Rutland Regional is committed to the healthy eating of our staff, patients and our local community. In doing so, Rutland Regional will begin using foods from local vendors for our fruits and vegetables; Rutland Regional is adding to one of the biggest salad bars in the area to include more choices for healthier eating. Rutland Regional also uses trans-fat free oil. In addition, the milk served will be all r-BGH free. In an effort to get a little greener anyone who brings in and uses their own cup will receive a discount on their coffee purchase, thus decreasing the amount of Styrofoam usage.

 

Friday, August 7, 2009, Alyssa Nathanson from the Vermont Fresh Network and Shannon Stover, Director of Rutland Regional’s Food and Nutrition signed the pledge that Rutland Regional will become a member of the Healthy Foods in Healthcare. Rutland Regional has taken steps and will continue to increase the availability of local and healthy food choices for the benefit of our patients, staff, and visitors.
