Green Mountain Care
If you need help paying your medical bills, the state of Vermont
offers several programs which offer assistance in securing insurance coverage.
Each program has different eligibility requirements, but Vermont residents with
incomes up to 300% of the federal poverty level can qualify.
Together, the programs are called Green Mountain Care. They
include:
- Medicaid. Low cost or free healthcare coverage for children, young adults
under age 21, parents, pregnant women, caretaker relatives, people who are
blind or disabled, and those age 65 and older. Eligibility is based on
household income and family size.
- Dr.
Dynasaur. Low cost or free healthcare coverage for children, teens under age
18, and pregnant women. Eligibility is based on household income and family size.
- VHAP and
VHAP Pharmacy. Low cost, low income adjusted healthcare coverage for those age 18
and older who have been uninsured for 12 months or more. Eligibility is based
on household income and family size.
- Catamount
Health. Low cost healthcare coverage for Vermonters age 18 or older who
have been uninsured for 12 months or more and who are not eligible for existing
state-sponsored programs such as Medicaid and VHAP. There are exceptions for
those who have lost insurance due to a life change, or who have had insurance
coverage for the last six months with a deductable of $10,000 or more for
individuals or $20,000 or more for a family, and who do not have access to
health insurance through an employer. Eligibility is based on household income
and family size.
