The Schwartz Rounds
Center
The
financial and administrative stresses of today’s healthcare system often
threaten the delivery of compassionate care. With less time for face-to-face
contact with patients, physicians are forced to focus on diagnosis and
treatment rather than the impact of illness on the patient and family.
As part of
Rutland Regional’s commitment to compassionate care, we’ve adopted Schwartz
Center Rounds. The program offers our healthcare providers a
regularly-scheduled time, during their fast-paced work lives, to openly and
honestly discuss social and emotional issues that arise in caring for patients.
The Benefits of Rounds
Schwartz Center Rounds strengthen the caregiver-patient relationship by:
- Increasing insight into social and emotional
aspects of patient care
- Increasing feelings of compassion toward patients,
and a readiness to respond to patients’ and families’ needs
- Promoting teamwork, interdisciplinary
communication, and an appreciation for the roles and contributions of
colleagues from different disciplines
- Alleviating feelings of stress and isolation,
allowing for more openness to giving and receiving support
