Laboratory & Pathology
At Rutland Regional Laboratory Services, we understand that fast, accurate lab results are critical to getting you the treatment you need when you need it most.
Whether you are a patient at Rutland Regional Medical Center, having outpatient surgery or need to have tests ordered by your doctor, you can count on our laboratory specialists to perform diagnostic testing, collect blood samples and analyze specimens with efficiency and care.
Our laboratory serves every department in the hospital, including the Emergency Department and the Foley Cancer Center, as well as all of our off-campus clinics and the community at large. We use state-of-the-art technology to provide a range of laboratory services, including:
- Anatomical pathology
- Blood bank
- Reference department
The lab at Rutland Regional Medical Center provides expert testing services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For your convenience, we also operate six blood draw stations in the Rutland region.
Our courier service for medical providers transports specimens for analysis from all over central and southern Vermont and delivers completed patient reports. Courier service is available from 7am to 7pm.
If you require a referral for specialized laboratory services, our staff will manage the process and coordinate your care to ensure a seamless transition. We partner with The University of Vermont Medical Center and the Mayo Clinic to ensure that you receive the laboratory services you need.

Our Laboratory Services Team
Rutland Regional’s Laboratory Services team uses the latest technology to provide you with the best possible care. Our team includes:
- Phlebotomists. Our phlebotomists perform daily blood draws and collect other lab specimens for testing. More than 75 percent of our phlebotomists are certified.
- Pathologists. Our experienced pathologists are physicians who work with other Rutland physicians to diagnose disease by examining biopsies or bodily fluids and interpreting laboratory tests to help prevent illness or to monitor a chronic condition.
- Technologists. Our lab employs nearly 35 skilled lab technologists to assist physicians in effective diagnosis and monitoring of treatment regimens.
- Ancillary staff. Our lab employs a full staff of prep technicians, administrative assistants and transcriptionists to assist with daily lab functions.
