Prostate Care

The compassionate, caring staff at Rutland Regional provides the most advanced, comprehensive prostate care in Central Vermont. Our board-certified urologist combines over 25 years of experience with state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat a range of prostate conditions, including prostatitis, enlarged prostate and prostate cancer.

In addition to providing expert urological care close to home, we take pride in creating a warm, welcoming environment for all patients. Our urologist conducts a thorough evaluation of each patient’s condition and works with the patient to answer questions and create a treatment plan. Tests and treatments for prostate conditions include:

  • Transrectal ultrasound with prostate biopsy. For this test, your urologist takes tissue samples from several places in your prostate, to be examined for cancer. A transrectal ultrasound helps the urologist see the prostate during the procedure.
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). A TURP procedure removes portions of the prostate gland through the penis to relieve symptoms of prostate enlargement.
  • Prostatectomy. A surgical procedure to remove the entire prostate gland and some surrounding tissue to treat prostate cancer.

Some tests and procedures can be performed in our office, eliminating the need for patients to be admitted to the hospital. We use the latest minimally invasive techniques and procedures whenever possible to reduce discomfort, speed recovery time and improve patient outcomes.
