Urological Cancer Treatment

Urological cancers include cancers of the bladder, prostate, kidneys and testicles. Prostate cancer, while highly treatable, is the second most common cancer in American men. Our urologist and staff work closely with the cancer experts at Foley Cancer Center to provide expert urological cancer care including:

  • Cystectomy. A cystectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the bladder to treat bladder cancer.
  • Cystoscopy. Cystoscopy is a procedure that is used to see inside the bladder and urethra. A cystoscopy is performed to diagnose, and sometimes treat, diseases and conditions of the bladder, including cancer, bladder stones and bladder inflammation.
  • Nephrectomy. A nephrectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of a kidney. The procedure is commonly performed to treat cancer or remove a seriously damaged or diseased kidney.
  • Orchiectomy. Orchiectomy is the removal of the testicles. The procedure is commonly performed to treat testicular and prostate cancer.
  • Radical retropubic prostatectomy. Radical retropubic prostatectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the entire prostate gland and some surrounding tissue to treat prostate cancer.
  • Transurethral resection for bladder tumor (TURBT). A TURBT procedure is used to diagnose bladder cancer and remove cancerous tissue from the bladder.
  • Hormone therapy. Hormone therapy for prostate cancer is the term used to describe the use of medicines to reduce testosterone to very low levels. This helps control the spread of the cancer.
