Committed to providing the highest-possible quality of life, and supporting patients' wishes, Rutland Regional Medical Center's Palliative Care team offers physical and emotional care to patients and families coping with serious, chronic or life-threatening illnesses. While Palliative Care focuses on comfort and quality of life, it can be provided at the same time as aggressive, life-prolonging treatment.
Working closely with the patient and family members, this specialized care is coordinated by an experienced palliative care nurse, who helps all involved understand the expected course of the illness and treatment options. The palliative care nurse works together with patients’ usual hospital doctors and care team to assist with ensuring that care plans support the patients’ goals and values. Following Rutland Regional's palliative care philosophy, services generally focus on providing:
- Pain Relief
- Advanced Symptom Management
- Patient and Family Counseling
- Assistance with Advanced Care Planning
- Support for End-of-Life Care
Referrals for palliative care may be requested by a patient or family members, but do require an order from a physician.
Palliative care consultations are provided from 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday or, when needed, by special arrangement. For more information, talk with your doctor or nurse, or contact a Palliative Care nurse directly at 802.772.2471.
