Inpatient psychiatric patients have unique needs, which is why Rutland Regional’s Psychiatric Services Inpatient Unit has unique policies not found on other hospital units. These rules include the following:
- To help ensure safety, all patients and their belongings are searched upon admission to the unit.
- To help keep patients and family members informed, as well as provide the structure many patients with mental illness need, daily schedules are posted throughout the unit. Family members should make note of support group and therapy times, when visits might not be possible. Copies of the schedule are available by request.
- Visits from family and friends are highly encouraged. Loved ones should speak with a nurse or call 802.747.3715 to confirm the best time to visit.
- Patients do not keep their cell phones with them when not in use. However, patients have access to a unit-based phone that they can use to make or receive calls, and can access the information in their cell phones if required. The patient access phone number is 802.747.3617.
The Psychiatric Services Inpatient Unit is tobacco free. Patients who smoke are given options for nicotine replacement and, when desired, referred to the hospital’s smoking cessation program.
Family members with questions or concerns about these or any policies related to the unit should speak with a staff member or call 802.747.3715.
