Respiratory therapy services are available for hospital patients
who need assistance with their breathing. Our specially trained
Respiratory Therapists provide round-the-clock care throughout the hospital, to
patients of all ages.
Patients who have a COPD diagnosis can be evaluated for the
current state of their disease, and assessed for a variety of problems often
associated with chronic lung disease. These assessments are specially designed to address smoking cessation, supplemental
oxygen requirements, sleep-related breathing disorders, medication management,
and the appropriateness of pulmonary rehabilitation.
Patients in the Ventilator Unit at neighboring The Pines at
Rutland nursing home also receive treatment from our respiratory
therapists. This unique service is Vermont’s only 24 hours a day,
7 days a week, long-term ventilator care facility. The goal of the respiratory therapists who
work in this program is to decrease, to the degree possible, the patients’
dependence on mechanical ventilation.
