The outpatient Wound Ostomy & Continence (WOC) Clinic at Rutland General Surgery specializes in providing you or your loved one with comprehensive wound, ostomy, tube and continence care management.

Our interdisciplinary team includes a board-certified nurse practitioner with wound certification, and a certified wound and ostomy registered nurse (CWON). General surgeons are on-site for consultation as needed. Our team works closely with you and your family to develop a personalized care management plan that fits your lifestyle and provides appropriate educational instruction for you and your caregivers.

As long as you are receiving treatment through our clinic, we will continue to collaborate with referring providers, specialists, home health agencies and skilled/extended care nursing facilities to ensure that you are receiving the care you need close to home.

Services We Provide

Patients with Wounds and Fistula

Our wound clinic provides comprehensive wound care in an outpatient setting. This includes education, early intervention, reduction of non-healing wound complications such as amputations, and improvement of quality of life for patients with all types of wounds.

Wound management and therapies include:

  • Bioengineered skin grafts/substitutes
  • Compression therapy
  • Education for wound care, smoking cessation, nutritional support, glycemic control and pressure relief technologies
  • Evaluation of wounds and drainage problems
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • On-going monitoring of healing and coordination of care
  • Selection of appropriate interventions for healing
  • Specialized wound dressings
  • Total contact casting
  • Wound debridement

General surgeon consultation as needed for:

  • Comprehensive vascular assessment
  • Minimally invasive venous ablation
  • Skin grafting

Patients with Ostomies

  • Pre-operative instruction and selection of stoma site
  • Post-operative instruction for patients, caregivers & nursing staff
  • Assistance with selecting and obtaining ostomy supplies
  • Long-term support and resource for pouching or skin issues

Patients with Tubes

  • Pre-procedure instruction and care coordination
  • Assessment and management of feeding regime
  • Post-procedure instruction for patients, caregivers & nursing staff
  • Assistance with obtaining appropriate tube feeding supplies
  • Long-term support and resource for tube management

Patients with Incontinence

  • Evaluation of factors that contribute to urine or bowel loss
  • Selection of appropriate treatment
  • Development of toileting programs
  • Instructions for patients, caregivers and nursing staff
  • Instruction in clean intermittent self cath
  • Instruction in pelvic muscle exercise
  • Assistance in selecting appropriate containment devices and skin care
