Patient Care

At Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic, we understand that planning for joint replacement surgery can be stressful. That is  why we make patient education and patient care our top priorities.

Keeping You Informed

To plan for your joint replacement procedure and at-home recovery, we encourage you to attend one of our pre-operative classes. In addition to free public presentations, hosted by our expert physicians, we also offer specific classes focused on each type of joint replacement. These sessions are a great place to learn about what you can expect, ask any questions you may have and direct your concerns to our medical professionals.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Pain Management – Medications, Blocks, Injections, and Other Methods
  • Anatomy – Joint Functionality
  • Prosthesis – Description of the New Joint and How It Works
  • Infection – Preventative Post-Operative Steps
  • Dental Work Implications – Information on Preventative Antibiotics
  • Pre-Surgery Steps – Including Optional Work with a Staff Trainer
  • Anesthesia Options – Pre-Operative Discussions with Our Anesthesiologists are also Offered
  • Femoral Nerve Blocks (for Knee) – Including Fall Risk and Prevention

Personalized Care

From pre-operative planning through recovery and rehabilitation, your care will be overseen by our on-site nurse case manager. Understanding that each patient has different needs, goals, and concerns, your nurse case manager is there to answer questions about your procedure, how to best prepare, and what to expect during your recovery period.

We are also available to help you with logistical matters, such as navigating insurance paperwork, expediting follow up appointments, or helping you secure at-home assistance if needed. Your family members are also encouraged to ask any questions they may have, especially those who may be helping you on the day of your surgery or during your recovery period.
