Tom Huebner, President & CEO receives prestigious “Fire Starter Hall of Fame Award”

At the annual 2017 "What’s Right in Healthcare Conference," the Studer Group recognized Rutland Regional Medical Center President and CEO, Tom Huebner, by inducting him into the 2017 Fire Starter Hall of Fame. Huebner, along with five peers representing healthcare systems from throughout the US and Canada, met the highest standards of excellence set forth by the organization. This prestigious recognition places Tom Huebner among the best of the best in healthcare leadership.

The Studer Group is an outcomes-based healthcare performance improvement firm that works with healthcare organizations in the United States, Canada, and beyond, teaching them how to achieve, sustain, and accelerate exceptional clinical, operational, and financial results.

In 2012, Rutland Regional signed on with the Studer Group, and by doing so, committed to complete organizational transformation. The results in improved patient satisfaction score as well as scores reflecting employee engagement have proven the success of the program. Perhaps most telling is the number of awards and national recognitions the hospital has received, 17 in the past two years alone, around the areas of patient safety, nursing excellence, performance, and technological advancements.

The Fire Starter Hall of Fame Award recognizes leaders who, through their dedication and passion, guide and support an organization's commitment to excellence while keeping the true spirit of their organization alive and flourishing. Since its inception in 2004, 50 healthcare leaders have been named to the Fire Starter Hall of Fame.

In accepting the award Huebner said, "I accept the award on behalf of my entire organization. It can’t be done by one person. It’s done by all of our leaders and all of our staff working together to achieve our results. At Rutland Regional we put emphasis on full staff engagement. We talk about people committing their hearts and minds to the care of the patients and each other and we’ve made remarkable progress towards that goal."

In choosing Huebner for this award, the selection committee highlighted his 25-year commitment to Rutland Regional Medical Center, as well as his stellar leadership on the governing boards for critical healthcare related organizations. Currently, he serves as the New England Representative for the American Hospital Association Board of Directors and Board Chair of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) for Vermont, leading the ACO state level work for the entire state.

Huebner remains very active and engaged in the healthcare process and believes that everyone coming to Rutland Regional should be treated with care and compassion. His exceptional leadership has expertly prepared a path of success for each and every one of the hospital’s 1600+ employees to the benefit to all patients as well as to the broad community the hospital serves.
