Rutland Regional Receives Awards from Healthgrades
Rutland Regional Medical Center is one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement™ and the only hospital in Vermont to receive this recognition according to a national study by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. Rutland Regional once again was the only hospital in Vermont to receive a Five-Star Rating for Total Hip Replacement and Joint Replacement Excellence Award for the second consecutive year (2019-2020). Additionally, Rutland Regional was the only hospital in Vermont to receive a Five-Star Rating for Total Knee Replacement for ten consecutive years (2011-2020), and one of three hospitals to receive a Five-Star Rating for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for three consecutive years (2018-2020). And, for the first time, the hospital received a Five-Star Rating for Treatment of Sepsis (2020). Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. These achievements are part of findings released today in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation.
A Five-Star rating indicates that Rutland Regional Medical Center’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the specified condition or performing the procedure being evaluated. According to Healthgrades, from 2016 through 2018, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award have, on average, a 62.5 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.
“For Rutland Regional Medical Center to be recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement makes me tremendously proud,” said Claudio Fort, President and CEO of Rutland Regional Medical Center, “This honor, along with our four other awards, illustrates our staff and physician’s unwavering commitment to patient care, safety, and desired outcomes.”
“This level of achievement begins with hiring physicians who are passionate about delivering high quality care, having visionary physician leaders, a highly responsive and supportive administration, and the best and most engaged clinical and support staff I have ever had the honor of working beside,” stated Melbourne Boynton, MD, Chief Medical Director.
Jonathan Reynolds, PharmD, Vice President of Clinical Services added, “Our excellent clinical outcomes identified by Healthgrades are a result of hardworking individuals from many departments collaborating together to provide our patients with the best healthcare experience possible. I’m very gratified that Rutland Regional ranks among some of the most prestigious health systems in the country.”
