Rutland Women’s Healthcare Certified for Patient Safety Processes by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SCOPE Certification™)

Rutland Women’s Healthcare, a department of Rutland Regional Medical Center, has been awarded Safety SCOPE Certified logoCertification in Outpatient Practice Excellence (SCOPE) for Women’s Health Program certification. SCOPE is a safety-focused program of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). This is the second consecutive SCOPE certification received by Rutland Women’s Healthcare, which is among the first ob-gyn offices in the country to be certified.

The providers at Rutland Women’s Healthcare are committed to providing the very best care to our patients,” said Robin Leight, MD, FACOG, Medical Director of Rutland Women’s Healthcare. “We also assess our procedures and processes to continuously improve how we deliver this care. Attaining SCOPE certification once again, underscores this commitment and motivates us to continually work to ‘better our best’ on behalf of our patients.

SCOPE is a comprehensive patient safety review program available to medical practices in which obstetrics and/or gynecology services are provided. SCOPE assesses the implementation and use of patient safety concepts and techniques in the office setting. Participation in the SCOPE program is voluntarily and certification is provided based on set SCOPE criteria. Patient safety is essential to providing optimal health care for women, and implementation of patient safety measures can reduce medical errors and risk, and lead to positive patient outcomes. By achieving SCOPE certification, Rutland Women’s Healthcare has demonstrated excellence in patient safety processes.

While applying for this certification, we looked at all of our processes to see what was working, what needed to be improved and what we should be doing differently,” said Kathy Romano, BSN, RN-BC, Clinical Nurse Supervisor at Rutland Women’s Healthcare. “Through this process and being recertified again, the staff feels empowered and confident. It shows in how they conduct themselves daily.

The physicians, advance practice providers, nurses and staff at Rutland Women’s Healthcare are all committed to helping improve patient safety. Pursuing and achieving certification through ACOG’s SCOPE program allowed the practice to better understand its strengths and enhance their robust patient safety practices.
