Rutland Area Medical Community Announces 2021 Scholarship Program
The 2021 Rutland Area Medical Community Scholarship application is currently available for qualified candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Now in its fifth year, the scholarship program is possible due to the generosity of Rutland area physicians, retired physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, and in 2020, memorial donations in honor of Dr. Joseph Corbett who died in December following a long illness.
Eligible candidates include high school seniors, local college students or Rutland area medical community employees who are working toward furthering their goal of a career in healthcare.
The scholarship is intended to stimulate the region’s best and brightest students by encouraging them to continue their education in the field of healthcare. The scholarship awards are designed to create opportunities that empower recipients to achieve excellence in education.
The Rutland area medical community established the scholarship program in 2016, raising more than $175,000 to support ongoing scholarship awards. During the past four years, twenty-two scholarships have been awarded to local recipients.
In 2021, five $2,000 scholarship awards will be distributed to local students who fit the scholarship criteria.
“We continue to be grateful to our local medical community for their generous support to sustain the scholarship program. It is with their commitment and collaboration, we can help individuals pursue their goal of higher education in the healthcare field,” said Dr. Stanley Shapiro, Medical Director of the Rutland Heart Center, and volunteer Co-Chair of the Rutland Area Medical Community Scholarship Committee, “We look forward to this year’s process and awarding five scholarships later this spring.”
Shapiro leads the volunteer committee with co-chair retired Rutland Regional surgeon, Dr. Victor Pisanelli, Jr.
