Rutland Regional Medical Center Enacts Vaccine Mandate for Staff & Updates Visitor Policy

Due to the uptick in COVID-19 cases in the Rutland region, Rutland Regional Medical Center announced an all-staff vaccine mandate as well as an update to the hospital’s visitation policy.

All staff are expected to be fully vaccinated by October 1, 2021. Those who remain unvaccinated after October 1 will be required to take a weekly COVID-19 test.

This policy is similar to those adopted by a growing number of healthcare organizations and the State of Vermont,” said Claudio Fort, President & CEO of Rutland Regional. “By offering a weekly testing option, it maintains both our commitment to staff and patient safety while honoring individuals’ personal agency in making this decision.”

The hospital also updated its visitation policy in response to rising COVID-19 cases. For hospitalized patients, the updated policy restricts visitation to two designated visitors. Only these two designated visitors may visit during the patient’s stay. Outpatient visitors are allowed one visitor to accompany them.

All visitors, whether inpatient or outpatient, must agree to wear a mask while they are at the hospital.

“We recognize that visitors and support persons are essential for our patients’ recovery and care,” said Betsy Hassan, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CPPS, Chief Nursing Officer at Rutland Regional. “We have made and will continue to make changes and adjustment in our policy to allow for flexibility while maintaining maximum safety for both patients and our staff.”

Additionally, hospital leaders continue to review recommendations by the American Hospital Association, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Vermont Department of Health. The hospital is prepared to make additional restrictions for visitation should COVID-19 cases continue to increase or if national or state recommendations change.

Our number one priority throughout this pandemic has never wavered,” said Fort. “We continue to be committed to keeping our patients and staff safe.”

Rutland Regional will continue to use video conferencing and other means of communication to keep patients connected to family and friends. View the full visitor policy>>>
