Rutland Regional Celebrates $4.1 Million Psychiatric Services Renovation

Prior to the pandemic, Rutland Regional Medical Center embarked on crucial upgrades to the PSIU to comply with safety guidelines as well as create an updated and more patient-centered psychiatric unit.

Many of our patients have unique needs and require long hospital stays,” said Lesa Cathcart, RN, Director PSIU at Rutland Regional Medical Center. “These renovations will better accommodate their individual needs and help reduce stress for family and loved ones. The renovated unit will function more effectively with calming features to promote comfort, healing, and wellness.

Project Description & Scope:

PSIU, located on the fourth floor at Rutland Regional’s main campus, has undergone a transformation during the past two years. Changes to the unit include an increase in private bedrooms for patients, a new nurse’s station, furnishings, and regulatory and cosmetic upgrades that have helped to create a safer, more patient-centered and comfortable treatment setting for patients and their families.

The Renovations Enabled:

  • An increased bed capacity with single-bed rooms increasing from 6 to 18, allowing more flexibility to accept patients and creating a calmer and quieter environment.
  • Improved patient monitoring and lines of sight from the nurses’ station to enhance the safety and security of patients.

Project Cost:

$4.1 Million

Project Timeframe:

PSIU Renovation Start Date: July 2019

Total Project Completion Date: August 2022
