About Me

Sarah Barton, DNP, CNM, C-EFM has over 20 years’ experience in the medical field with certification as a nurse midwife through the American Midwifery Certification Board, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing University. She was drawn to healthcare when she was 18 years old working as a home health aide in hospice, and homecare. Sarah is the first Certified Nurse Midwife to join Rutland Women’s Healthcare at Rutland Regional Medical Center and brings a well-rounded and holistic focus to the practice.

A Certified Nurse Midwife goes through all the same training as a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on pregnancy, birth and postpartum. In addition to this education Sarah has a certification of expertise in electronic fetal monitoring, and a certificate as surgical first assist with 10 years’ experience as a surgical first assist. As a Certified Nurse Midwife, she can treat all patients for a variety of needs from onset of menses thru the childbearing years and into the menopausal years.

I feel strongly that the patient always has a voice. My role as the provider is to educate them on the choices, potential outcomes and give them the space they need to make the choice that is best for them.
— Sarah Barton, DNP, CNM

Sarah chose to practice at Rutland Regional because of the excellent outcomes of Rutland Women’s Healthcare and the collegiality among the providers, nurses and support staff at the practice.

In her spare time, Sarah and her husband enjoy life “on the hill” just over the border in NY State where their adult children frequently visit the menagerie of dogs that are milling about. The outdoors are a great draw for she and her husband and they take advantage of the hiking, skiing and boating opportunities that are abundant in the greater Rutland region.
