Biography
Calvin Gilkey, MD, has joined the Hospital Medicine team at Rutland Regional. Dr. Gilkey came to medicine via his love of science. Being a doctor allows him the juxtaposition of building relationships with his patients and co-workers as well as time to focus on the science behind the medicine.
“It’s important to me to work on a multidisciplinary team providing the best possible care for each patient based on their distinct needs, both during hospitalization and while preparing them for when they leave the hospital.”
Dr. Gilkey enjoys working at community hospitals because of the diversity of available specialties without losing a high level of individual patient care. Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. Gilkey completed his residency at UVM Medical Center and decided he wanted to stay in Vermont. His favorite hobby is foraging, for mushrooms, ramps and fiddleheads. Dr. Gilkey is also an avid cross-country skier and looks forward to exploring the options in Rutland County.
