About Me

Dr. James McNinch is a pulmonologist and critical care physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating lung and respiratory diseases. Dr. McNinch earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Middlebury College and spent time working in EMS with the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad. He has a deep interest in science and helping others, which is what drew him to a career in medicine.

Dr. McNinch is fascinated by the complexities of the human body and how it functions both in health and disease. He chose to specialize in pulmonary and critical care medicine because while they require different tools to help patients, both specialties involve a level of applied physiology and detective work to determine the root cause of illness.

I try to be thoughtful about the words I use with my patients to ensure I’m not talking over them or using medical jargon. This helps me to build a relationship of trust and understanding so we can work together to find answers for their medical issues.
— James McNinch, MD

Dr. McNinch grew up in Delaware. He enjoyed his time in Vermont during his undergraduate years and was happy to return to the Northeast with his wife, who is originally from New Hampshire. Dr. McNinch is looking forward to learning about the Rutland community and spending time skiing, fly fishing, and mountain biking.
