About Me

Dr. Kelsey Schaefer has joined the Emergency Department at Rutland Regional. Always interested in science, she began working as a scribe at an ED in Rochester, NY while earning her undergraduate degree. Dr. Schaefer found that she loved the work and developed a passion for medicine, which drove her to become a physician.

In emergency medicine, there is often a set of expectations that a patient has which are largely shaped by what they have seen portrayed in the media. However, the reality is often quite different. Dr. Schaefer strives to realistically meet her patients’ expectations while delivering high quality emergency care.

Medicine is complicated, and as a physician, it’s my job to bridge the gap in understanding for my patients. We work together, with a full understanding of the options, to make the best decisions for their health.
— Kelsey Schaefer, DO

An outdoors person at heart, Dr. Schaefer is excited to be living in Vermont with her partner and their much loved basset hound. She loves to hike and has completed 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. Dr. Schaefer is looking forward to hiking the trails of New England and becoming a part of the Rutland community.
