Biography
Dr. Shapiro has been practicing in Vermont since 1983. He has served on the University of Vermont Faculty since 1985 as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine. He has been elected to the Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology by his peers and served on the National Faculty of the American Heart Association of Emergency Cardiac Care Committee.
In 2012, he was awarded Physician of the Year by the Vermont Health Care Association, a state wide organization devoted to care of the elderly and infirmed.
Dr. Shapiro serves as Medical Director of the Rutland Heart Center. He is the Director of the Progressive Care Unit of Rutland Regional Medical Center as well as one of the five members of the Medical Management Committee of Rutland Regional. He also currently serves as Vice President of the Medical Staff.
In conjunction with the University of Vermont School of Medicine, he is a preceptor for third and fourth year medical students who have rated the clerkship as outstanding.
He lives on a farm in Ira, Vermont with his wife, children and numerous animals. He enjoys golfing, reading, film and history.
