VTSU Castleton Women’s Hockey Host Annual Pink the Rink Hockey Game

Rutland, VT – On Friday, February 14, 2025, Vermont State University’s Castleton Women’s Ice Hockey team will host the 16th Annual Pink the Rink game against Elmira College at 6pm at the Spartan Arena in Rutland.

Over the past fifteen years, the Castleton women’s hockey team has contributed more than $100,000 to the Breast Care program at the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center. The enthusiasm for the event has grown considerably with huge crowds of fans showing their support and helping to raise funds to support the fight against breast cancer.

"The Pink the Rink game is an important event for the Castleton University Women’s Ice Hockey Team and our local region,” said Head Coach Tim McAulliffe. “We are proud to continue to help raise awareness and support in the fight against breast cancer.”

While Pink the Rink is about raising funds and awareness, it is also a time for celebration of breast cancer survivors, a time to celebrate progress to find a cure and it signifies the power of many individuals and separate communities coming together to support a common cause.

As in previous years, Castleton will trade their traditional Spartan green apparel for newly designed, limited edition pink jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off on the VTSU Castleton Sports website to raise awareness and funds in support of the Foley Cancer Center. Bids may be placed online on the university's website here: https://www.32auctions.com/ptr2025

In addition, there will be a varied basket auction and bake sale at the event, and complimentary custom Pink the Rink tee shirts will be given away to the first 200 fans through the door courtesy of Foley Services, Inc. The cost of admission to the game on February 14 is $7 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. Please note the early start time of 6pm.

“Rutland Regional appreciates the ongoing partnership with Vermont State University’s Castleton campus and collaboration with the women’s hockey team lead by Coach Tim McAuliffe,” says Traci Moore, Senior Director of Development & Community Relations at Rutland Regional Medical Center. “The time that the coaches, players, parents and volunteers put into the event each year is considerable, and we are grateful for their efforts.”
