Three Free "Stop the Bleed" Public Education Events Offered at RRMC

RUTLAND, VT – Rutland Regional Medical Center will host several "Stop the Bleed" classes for the public on May 22. These classes are designed for everyday people. No medical training is needed in order to attend. "Stop the Bleed" is a national program promoted and supported by the American College of Surgeons.

The free 1-hour course will be offered at three separate times on Friday, May 22 and will take place at the hospital in the CVPS/Leahy Community Health Education Center. Class times are 8am, 12noon, or 2pm. The classes will be taught by RRMC Stop the Bleed instructors.

"Stop the Bleed" classes give hands-on practice with life-saving skills in the event of a traumatic and severe bleed.  Severe bleeding can become deadly in just minutes. When someone loses a lot of blood, every minute matters. In many rural communities, emergency medical services must travel long distances. Weather, mountain roads, and limited ambulance coverage can also slow response times. That means the people nearby—neighbors, family, coworkers, or even strangers—may be the first and most important helpers.

The national “Stop the Bleed” program teaches simple steps that can keep a person alive until professional help arrives. Attendees will learn how to recognize dangerous bleeding, use proper pressure, pack wounds, and place a tourniquet correctly. These steps are simple, but practice helps people feel confident using them in an emergency.

To register for this FREE event, email Education & Clinical Excellence or call 802.747.3775. Walk-ins are welcome as space permits.

Attendees may park in the gated lot located near the CVPS/Leahy Community Health Education Center. Event parking signs will be posted.
