Vermont has a robust and diverse health support program that is 100% free for everyone. MyHealthyVt.org is the website created as part of the Vermont Blueprint for Health initiative. This is a nationally recognized state program that is formed through a collaboration among healthcare providers, social service agencies, healthcare centers, insurers, and accountable care organization to help advance the overall health and wellbeing of Vermonters.

When you visit the MyHealthyVT.org website you will have access to multiple tools including a calendar of workshops and meetings on a variety of health topics, other helpful resources and a prediabetes risk quiz.

The “OTHER RESOURCES” tab on the top of the homepage has many resources listed from where to find a farmers’ market to how to qualify for farm to family coupons and more. There is information on food resources such as 3SquaresVT as well as a listing of emergency food shelves and community meal sites. There is also helpful information for families with children and for older Vermonters.

When you click on the “WORKSHOPS” tab, you will find a calendar listing of various workshops on managing a chronic illness, including diabetes, chronic pain, and high blood pressure. There is also a course to help you quit smoking.

Most of these courses are online and take place over several weeks. These courses are facilitated by a trained professional who has extensive knowledge of the topic and is most likely working through the same issues covered by the workshop. Depending on the workshop, they are between one to two and a half hours in duration.

It is easy to sign up for the workshops on the website and once you sign up, you will be contacted by a My Healthy VT coordinator via email or phone to complete your registration. To participate in the workshop, you will need a computer or smartphone with good internet access.

Rutland Regional Medical Center is hosting an online Diabetes Prevention Workshop through My Healthy VT that starts on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The facilitator for this workshop is Cynthia Thurston who was a participant in this same workshop in 2016 and has been facilitating it since 2017. It worked so well for her that she wanted to help others who are facing the same issues. “We are never too old to change an old habit or form a new one,” said Thurston. “The programs provide information and knowledge is power. From there we can make positive choices that will help us create our own healthy future.”

The January 10 Diabetes Prevention Workshop is free and evidence-based and takes place online on Wednesdays from 5–6pm. The course offers education and support to help you adopt healthier eating and activity habits that can lead to weight loss and reduce your risk of getting diabetes. The workshop meets once a week for the first 16 weeks. Following that, they meet every other week, and the bi-monthly for a total of 25 sessions over a year.
