National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service, to celebrate the power of volunteerism within our society, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world.
Volunteering can be seen as a form of civic responsibility. Through direct interaction with people in need, volunteers create empathy and compassion, fostering a more caring and inclusive society. The collective efforts of volunteers can have a significant positive impact on communities, addressing various needs and improving the quality of life for everyone.

RRMC is proud of its 200+ active volunteers. Our volunteers have been involved with the hospital since its beginning in 1896, supporting staff by discharging patients, running various errands, resupplying, data entry, answering call bells, bringing specimens to the lab, driving patients to appointments, participating in patient rounding, visiting staff or patients with therapy dogs, and other special assignments. The volunteers enable staff to devote more time to intensive patient care duties.

Volunteering often focuses on how you can make a difference in other people’s lives every day, but it is mutually rewarding. We invite you to honor all volunteers during National Volunteer Week (April 21 – 26), and better yet, consider becoming a volunteer yourself.
