Urology Surgery & Procedures

Rutland Regional Medical Center's Marble Valley Urology provides specialized, comprehensive care for urologic conditions – while making your comfort, recovery time, and results our top priorities.

Procedures include:

Circumcision

This procedure removes the hood of skin from the tip of the penis. Circumcision is a common procedure for newborn boys in the U.S., usually done a day or two after birth. Circumcision is possible after the newborn period but becomes more complex.

Hydrocelectomy

Hydrocelectomy is a surgery that removes a hydrocele, a collection of fluid around the scrotum (the pouch of skin that holds the testicles). Hydroceles usually go away on their own. If the swelling does not go away within 6 to 12 months, you’ll need surgical treatment.

Orchiopexy

When a testicle fails to drop into place in the scrotum, the problem can be fixed with orchiopexy – a surgical procedure to move the testicle into the scrotum. To produce sperm, testicles need to be within the scrotum instead of in the groin area. This is because the scrotum is cooler than body temperature, which is better for sperm production.

Simple Open Prostatectomy

A simple open prostatectomy is a procedure to remove the inside of the prostate gland to treat an enlarged prostate.

Spermatocelectomy

A spermatocelectomy is an operation to remove a fluid-filled cyst (a non-cancerous cyst called a spermatocelectomy) near the testicles. You usually only need this procedure if a cyst if the bother you or cause pain.

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)

A TURP procedure is used to improve symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. If during this procedure, your surgeon will remove portions of your prostate gland through the urethra.

Varicocelectomy

A varicocelectomy is a procedure to repair enlarged veins in the testicles, caused by blood gathering in the veins instead of moving out of the scrotum. This procedure helps with discomfort or infertility.

Vasectomy

Vasectomy prevents the release of sperm when a man ejaculates, offering a permanent form of birth control.
